Huntingdon, Tenn.–Condolences have been pouring in following the death of a Carroll County Electric lineman in the line of duty in the early hours of Thursday during the severe storms.
Chance Carlton, age 32, of Huntingdon, was reportedly working in the Clarksburg area when the truck he was in was in an accident on Purdy Rd. The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating and as of this morning, had not issued its report.
The funeral will be held at the Chase Funeral Home in Huntingdon, where arrangements were incomplete as of this morning.
Carroll County Mayor Joseph Butler said in a statement, “We are truly heartbroken in the passing of Carroll County’s own, Chance Carlton. Chance was a Godly and dedicated husband, father, son, brother, colleague, and friend.
A true public servant, his passing occurring early this morning while in service to our community as part of the Carroll County Electric Department.
We pray today for a grieving family, a special work family, and community. I am thankful for the Lord’s promise that He is with us when we are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18).”
Carlton was a member of Shiloah Missionary Baptist Church in Westport which called him a “faithful friend, a devoted father and a man whose life touched so many.”
Paris Board of Pubic Utilities CEO Terry Wimberley said, “We want to offer our deepest condolences to Carroll County Electric, who tragically lost a lineman while working the storm. Our hearts go out to his family and community.”
Gibson Electric Membership Corp. said, “We are deeply saddened to hear of the tragic loss of Chance Carlton, a dedicated lineworker with the Carroll County Electric Department, who lost his life during last night’s storms. Lineworkers like Chance risk their lives daily to ensure that our communities have the power we depend on. During this incredibly difficult time, our thoughts and prayers are with Chance’s family, friends and colleagues. We offer our heartfelt condolences to the Carlton family and the Carroll County Electric Department.”
In a statement, Benton County Electric System said, “At this time, we want to extend our deepest condolences to our beloved neighbors in Carroll County who lost one of their own during the storm. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends, and coworkers as they navigate this difficult time.”
Numerous other utility companies in our area also issued statements of condolences for Carlton and his family.
