A photo of the Weakley County Courthouse in Dresden, Tennessee. In the foreground is a statue, sculpted by Russ Faxon on 2010, of Ned Ray McWherter, who served as governor of Tennessee from 1987-1995. The Dresden courthouse was designed by Marr And Holman. The limestone Weakley County Courthouse was built in 1949. This photo © Capitolshots Photography/TwoFiftyFour Photos, LLC, ALL RIGHTS RESERVED.
Message from the Weakley County EMA:
3/30/2025: we will be opening the courthouse tonight at 6pm until the primary weather threat has concluded, most likely around midnight.
Just a reminder, our policy is to open if there is a level 4 out of 5 threat for severe weather, or an increased risk of long-track tornadoes. Although we are only at a 3 out of 5 threat level today, we do have a threat of long-track tornadoes.
The City of Martin’s Gateway Center opens if there is a tornado watch or warning issued by the National Weather Service. It remains to be seen if a tornado watch will be issued this evening or not.
Lots of questions have been asked about pets in our facilities during storm sheltering/refuge areas. At the courthouse, cats and dogs are allowed as long as they are in a carrier or on a leash as long as you can keep them under control. Absolutely no primates or livestock, including poultry will be admitted!
You are responsible for cleaning up after your pets.
