Union City was clearly superior to Lake County on the softball diamond Monday.
The Lady Tornadoes swept a District 14A doubleheader from outmanned LC at Hawks-Eddlemon Field, claiming mercy-rule wins of 17-2 and 11-0.
UC improved to 5-3 overall and 3-0 in league play with the two convincing romps.
Hadley Smith clubbed a three-run homer to highlight an 11-run first inning in the opener, while Addison Carr scorched a three-run inside-the-park roundtripper to close out the Lady Twisters’ nightcap triumph.
Smith drove in four runs in all in Game 1, while Carr went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBIs. Kennedi Robinson had three hits and scored three times, while Whitley Jenkins and Ari Gear contributed a pair of singles each to Union City’s 15-hit attack.
Mattie Smith and Annalece Morton both knocked in three runs.
Hadley Smith did not allow a Lake County hit and struck out six in the abbreviated three-inning game to get the pitching decision.
In Game 2, Jenkins and Kylee McClure each went 3-for-3, with one of Jenkins’ hits a triple. McClure scored three times. Kylie Mayes and Morton had a pair of hits, with Morton knocking in two runs.
