Dyer County, Tenn.–29th Judicial District Attorney General Danny Goodman said he will be appealing a judge’s dismissal of the voluntary manslaughter charge against David Swift, formerly of Dyer County. The judge ruled that the statute of limitations had run out.
David Swift was earlier found not guilty in the murder trial of his first wife, Karen Swift, who was reported missing on October 30, 2011. Her body was found in December of 2011 and David Swift was indicted for the murder.
During the 2024 trial, Swift was found not guilty of murder and the grand jury met later and indicted him on voluntary manslaughter charge.
Following the indictment more than 11 years after her death, he was arrested in Birmingham, Alabama, where he had living after he was remarried. Swift is still facing separate charges in Alabama. He is accused of stalking his second wife, from whom he now is divorced.
