KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin softball closed out play in the 2025 Tennessee Invitational Sunday with a 4-1 win over Delaware State at Sherris Parker Lee Stadium in Knoxville.
The Skyhawks were first on the board in the game when Delaware State made a miscue in the infield allowing Joleanna Fox to reach off the error and Ava Scott to score. However, in the top of the fifth, Chandler Martine tied it for the Hornets with a solo home run.
In the bottom of the fifth, Avary Makarewicz answered with her own home run, a two-run blast to left center to give UT Martin a 3-1 lead.
In the sixth, Kyrsten Brown got caught in a rundown attempting to steal second, however, the ensuing chaos allowed Alli Robinson to cross home plate and cap the scoring at 4-1.
Despite not scoring, Kyla Harley had a great day at the plate by going 3-for-4 and stealing two bases, while Kyrsten Brown was 2-for-4. Robinson finished her day at 1-for-2 with a run and two walks.
Ashtyn Green allowed no unearned runs over six complete innings with three strikeouts and a walk to earn the win and stay perfect at 5-0 on the season. Natalie Kreuziger got her first save of the season by retiring the Hornets in order in the seventh, ending the game with a strikeout.
The Skyhawks will start their 2025 OVC campaign Mar. 8-9 at Southeast Missouri in Cape Girardeau. UT Martin will play a doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m., followed by a single game Sunday at 1 p.m.
