KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin softball team won both of its games on the opening day of the 2025 Tennessee Invitational Friday at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium in Knoxville.
The day began with the Skyhawks scoring the third-most runs in program history and tying the record for the largest margin of victory with a 17-0, five-inning win over Delaware State. In the second game, Alli Robinson hit a three-run home run in the seventh inning to lift the Skyhawks over Indiana State, 4-1.
“I’m really proud of this team— emphasis on team,” said head coach Chelsea Farmer after the game. “They came together today in a way that we’ve all been working to achieve.“
In game one against Delaware State, the Skyhawks scored 17 runs on 17 hits in the five-inning shutout. Kennedy Brown and Joleanna Fox led UT Martin in the contest with three hits each with Brown scoring three runs and driving in two, while Fox scored twice and drove in six runs. Alli Robinson was a home run short of the cycle, as she hit a single, a double, and a triple to drive in five runs.
In the circle, Rylee Tittle moved to 2-2 with a complete-game, one-hit shutout. The junior allowed just three base runners while adding a strikeout over 5.0 innings of work.
In game two against Indiana State, Avaray Makarewicz broke a 0-0 tie in the fourth with a home run to right center to give the Skyhawks a 1-0 advantage. However, in the bottom of the inning, the Sycamores tied the game at 1-1 on a sacrifice fly foul out from Livi Colip.
With the game still tied at one in the top of the seventh, Alli Robinson got her home run to complete her cycle on the day, scoring three runs and giving the Skyhawks a 4-1 lead. In the bottom of the inning, UT Martin turned a double play with a runner on and no outs before eventually throwing out the final Sycamore of the game for the 4-1 win.
Makarewicz was the only Skyhawk to tally two hits in the game, while Kyla Harley swiped two bases and scored a run.
Ashtyn Green stayed perfect in the circle on the season with the win Friday and moved to 4-0 after allowing just one run with a strikeout out over a complete-game performance.
With the wins Saturday, the Skyhawks have secured one of the top two seeds in the weekend tournament and will battle seventh-ranked Tennessee Saturday at 11:30 to try and secure the No. 1 overall seed. If UT Martin claims the top seed, it will play its second game of the day at 2 p.m., if they earn the No. 2 seed the game time will be played at 4:30 p.m.
