Several Union City High School and Middle School band students represented the program well after being selected to participate in a handful of regional honor band performances over the past few weeks.
Three students from UCMS and five more from UCHS carried the Purple People banner at the UTM Honor Band Festival hosted by the UTM Music Department late last month.
Those students were selected to perform against others from Tennessee and Kentucky. Our UC band students rehearsed on Thursday and Friday and gave a concert to parents/supporters on Saturday.
Hadlee Duncan, Wes Worrell, and Chloe Baumgardner represented UC Middle School in the festival, while Trey Jackson, Katie Goletto, Amir Peat, Phoebe Coleman, and Landon McAdams were picked to participate from Union City High School.
Two students from the middle school and one from UCHS participated in the prestigious All-West Conference/Clinic in Memphis earlier this month.
Wes Worrell and Chloe Baumgardner (UCMS) and Haylee Record (Union City High School) auditioned in January along with some of the finest musicians in West Tennessee and were chosen for a spot in the ensembles.
The conference was held at the Renasant Convention Center, and concerts were held at the beautiful Cannon Center in Memphis.
Veteran Union City band director Jason Deem beamed with pride when recognizing his standout members.
“These students went above and beyond to improve themselves as musicians,” Deem said. “The extra time each of them put in to participate in these ensembles improves every one of our ensembles here in Union City.
“Each of these students represented Union City Schools in an outstanding way, and I am proud of all of them for their accomplishments.”
