Union City High School students Sh’Nyla Moss, Chloe Hubbard, and Jaxon Jones recently participated in the 5th annual ALStar African American Leadership Summit on the campus of UT Martin.

The conference – a byproduct of WestStar Leadership – was specifically designed for high school sophomores in West Tennessee.

Students had their eyes opened to different career paths, according to organizers and learned how to prepare for post-secondary education to make their present goals into future realities.

Those chosen for the program were encouraged to develop their leadership skills, soft skills (communication, teamwork, adaptability, dependability, flexibility), and learned of the importance of community involvement.

“This event was an incredible opportunity for African American sophomores across West Tennessee to unlock their potential and take their leadership and career aspirations to new heights,” Jahnae Johnson, the new program manager for WestStar Leadership, said in a release.
