
MARTIN, Tenn. – Anaya Brown of the University of Tennessee at Martin women’s basketball team notched her fourth double-double of the season and joined the program’s career rebounding Top Ten list Tuesday night, as the Skyhawks cruised past Tennessee State, 73-52, at the Kathleen & Tom Elam Center in Martin.
The Skyhawks led by just one at the end of the first quarter, but outscored the Tigers 20-5 in the second quarter and never looked back from that point and cruised to the 21-point win. UT Martin outshot Tennessee State, 42.1-33.3, outrebounded the Tigers, 42-38, and committed less turnovers than them at 22-20.
Brown led all scorers in the game with 24 points and all rebounders with 10 to notch her sixth 20-plus point game of the season, fourth double-double of the season and 16th double-double of her career. Brown finished the night 7-for-14 from the floor, 1-for-2 from 3-point range and a near perfect 9-for-10 from the free throw line.
Additionally, the 10 rebounds gave Brown 607 for her career officially placing her 10th all-time in Skyhawk history in career rebounds. Brown began the night in 12th place all-time and passed Larissa Maciarz (600) and current UT Martin associate head coach Jasmine Newsome (604) on her way into the top ten.
Kenley McCarn followed with 20 points on the night for her sixth 20-plus point performance of the season and third in the past four games. It also marks the second time this season that two Skyhawks have scored 20-plus points in the same game this season, with Brown and Shae Littleford achieving the feat in January at home against Southeast Missouri. Daejah Richmond scored seven points, pulled down seven rebounds and had four assists Thursday, while Lexi Rubel and nine rebounds and two points.
The Skyhawks now travel to Tennessee Tech Thursday for their final road game of the 2024-25 regular season. Tip-off from the Eblen Center in Cookeville is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
