Administration at Union City Elementary School is making a place for a new wall decoration.
It will undoubtedly be a centerpiece.
Principal Allison Palmer and Vice Principals Bill Kail and Maggie Miller unveiled a banner Tuesday deeming UCES a Rewards School for 2023-24.
The elite status – based on the school’s performance on the federal accountability system – recognizes Union City Elementary’s overall school score of 3.1 or higher in accordance with the federal accountability calculation. Each school in the state received one of four designations, with the highest being that of Reward School.
Reward Schools are in the top five percent of schools for performance and progress.
The accomplishment pairs with the news two months ago that UCES – along with UC Middle School and Union City High School – had earned Level 5 status as designated by the Tennessee Department of Education.
A Level 5 school in Tennessee is a school that has demonstrated exceptional academic performance and student growth. The Tennessee Value-Added Assessment System (TVAAS) measures a school’s academic growth year-over-year and awards a Level 5 rating to the most effective schools.
“I could not be prouder of our elementary school teachers and students for the work they put in to receive this distinction,” UCES Principal Allison Palmer claimed. “This is really an amazing place with amazing people, and I’m so proud and humbled to be a part of such a wonderful high-achieving school system.”
