Union City, Tenn.–Meeting Tuesday night, Union City City Council passed on second and final reading an ordinance which amends the zoning ordinance for the City to allow liquor stores in B2 zones.
According to Mayor Terry Hailey, there will be another ordinance most likely February 4 that will spell out specifics for liquor stores’ locations. Almost all of the Liquor Store regulations are actually governed by the State.
Council also passed an ordinance on first reading that sets up a $50 fee for food vendors to operate for a period up to seven days. As a companion to that, Council passed on first reading an ordinance that sets up a $50 fee for three consecutive days for peddlers.
Council also authorized filing for a $750,000 grant with THDA for Housing Rehab. It’s a 100% grant with no local match. It would be used to install insulation and other rehab for residents who meet certain income guidelines. Union City has been successful in getting this grant before but its most recent application last year was not successful.
And, Council approved gifting 35 surplus police radios to the folks in Unicoi County who lost all their equipment in recent flooding in East Tennessee.
