Dresden, Tenn.–The passing of former President Jimmy Carter has been a sad time for all Americans, with everyone remembering President Carter for his service and faith. One couple in Dresden has even more special memories of both the former President and his wife, Rosalynn.
Bobby Goode, who most people around here will remember as the former Tennessee State Director of USDA Rural Development, shared a precious memory which involves sharing a meal and good conversation with the couple.
Goode and his wife, Melinda, have a friend who lives a few houses down the street from the Carters in Plains, Georgia.
“She knew we wanted to attend the Jimmy Carter Sunday School Class. She invited us to attend during the Presidents’ Day weekend 2014. We stayed at her home and she told us we would have a special guest joining us for dinner. We had steaks, baked potatoes and salad served on paper plates from the Plains Volunteer Fire Department fund raiser. We were shocked to see the special guests were President Carter and his wife Rosalynn.”
Goode recalled that during dinner they asked us about our children and our jobs. “Before they left for the evening, they said they had a gift for us and it was his book. ‘Lessons From Life Bible, Personal Reflections with Jimmy Carter’.
“The Sunday School Class was so incredible. President Carter taught with passion and included participation from the crowed. The experience was one we will always hold dear.”
The Goodes have photos from the special dinner and moments with the Carters to remember them by.
President Jimmy Carter passed away at the age of 100 on Sunday and a week of remembrances. The remembrances will be held in Georgia and Washington, D.C., beginning Saturday, January 4 and concluding Thursday, January 9. He will be buried by his wife in Plains.
