Former Paris Landing State Park Manager Steve Wright Passes Away

Former Paris Landing State Park Manager Steve Wright passed away Tuesday, December 10, at his residence in Springville. He was 69.

 Steve Randal Wright graduated from Big Sandy High School and the University of Tennessee at Martin.  After college he began work as a park ranger at Paris Landing State Park and he was named park manager in 1988.  He was a longtime member of the Paris Optimist Club, as well as the Buchanan Masonic Lodge, and Friendship Baptist Church.  Steve was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. He was a volunteer in the Fish Tent at the World’s Biggest Fish Fry each year.

 

He was born November 16, 1955, in Trenton, NJ to the late Harold Wright and the late Phyllis Culpepper Wright Cannon.

 

Steve married on March 22, 2008, to Gail Chandler Wright and she survives of Springville, TN.  He was also survived by seven children, Evan Wright of Big Sandy, TN, Elizabeth (Jack) Hughey of Nashville, TN, Brian Wright of Union City, TN, Brent Wright, Susie (Danny) Mitchell of Buchanan, TN, Angie (Jeff ) Jones of Buchanan, TN, and Vicky Leighty of Columbia, MO;  seven grandchildren and 1 on the way; four great grandchildren; one niece, Nicole Cannon of Big Sandy, TN; one cousin, Davy Culpepper of Big Sandy, TN; many other extended family members in Henry and Benton counties; and two former wives, Deborah Waters Wright of Big Sandy, TN, and Carman Clendenin Wright of Paris, TN

 

Besides his parents, Steve was also preceded in death by two brothers, Kim Wright and Nathan Cannon.

 

Arrangements are being handled by Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap St, Paris, TN.  Visitation will be Tuesday, December 17, 2024 from 10 am – 1 pm at Ridgeway Funeral Home with the funeral service at 1:00 pm with Bro. Russell Ragsdale officiating.

 

Named as pallbearers are Buster Myrick, Danny Williams, Tommy McDonald, Alan Harris, Evan Wright, and Tim Caldwell.

 

Burial will follow in New Liberty Cemetery.
