Camden, Tenn.–After a rough couple of days, Highway 70 is back open, the Hazmat tanker has been recovered and removed from the fatal accident scene, hazards mitigated by Hazmat technicians and the repairs to the damaged water main have been accomplished. But it will take many more hours (next day or two) for water to begin flowing to customers and bottled water is still being distributed today at the old Walmart Building on Hwy. 641 North in Camden. And there is still a boil water advisory in effect. In his latest message to the public, John Beasley of the Camden Water Department said, “I can confirm that there was NO chemical spill from the tanker, and there was NOT any contamination to the water system during this event. I will update again once repairs are completed.” A steady flow of cars have been lined up since yesterday for the free bottled water and several agencies in the area have donated bottled water. More donations are always accepted. (Bobby Melton photo).
