
Dyersburg, TN—One man has been arrested in connection to the shooting death of a Dyersburg State Community College student and another is being sought. 19-year-old Markell Phillips of Memphis has been arrested for the shooting death of Arian Anderson, who was 18. Police said that the shooting occurred at the St. John Apartments in Dyersburg on Monday, November 25.
Meanwhile, Dyersbug State has released the following statement:
The Dyersburg State Community College family is deeply saddened to share the news of the passing of Arian Anderson, a cherished member and promising freshman on the Men’s Basketball team. Arian passed away on November 25, 2024, leaving a legacy of dedication, talent, and love for the game.
“I am truly saddened by this heartbreaking news. This loss is felt profoundly and deeply among the college family, and our sympathies go out to Mr. Anderson’s family, friends, and teammates,” stated Dr. Scott Cook, President of Dyersburg State Community College.
In this difficult time, we encourage our community to unite and support one another. As we navigate this loss, counseling services are available to all students, faculty, and staff.
