
Calloway County, Ky.–A resident was found unconscious and unresponsive after being overcome by fire and smoke in his home this morning. The ambulance service treated him for severe smoke inhalation before transporting him to the local hospital. He then was flown to an out of state hospital by Air Evac.
At approximately 7:30 am this morning Calloway County, KY 911 Communications Center dispatched Calloway County Fire Rescue to the 5000 block of Highway 121 North in Stella for a mobile home on fire in a trailer park community.
Dispatch advised that a neighbor, who called 911, said they believed the homeowner was possibly still inside the residence but could not get an answer at the door. Upon arrival of a CCFR officer & Calloway County, KY Sheriff’s Office, the neighbor stated they believed the homeowner was still inside & showed them where the bedroom area would be from the outside of the mobile home.
After removing the window from the bedroom, first responders found the bedroom to be empty. Upon arrival of additional units, the front door was forced open & entry was made by first responders where they found the mobile home to be filled with smoke & fire could be seen inside the kitchen.
The homeowner was found unconscious & unresponsive in the living room area. CCFR personnel checked the homeowner & found he still had a pulse; CCFR personnel then carried the homeowner out of the residence to where Murray Calloway Co. Ambulance personnel awaited to treat him for severe smoke inhalation before transporting him to the Murray-Calloway County Hospital where he was later flown to an out of state hospital by Air Evac. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire inside the residence.
CCFR responded with 2 pumpers, 3 tankers, 1 support truck & 1 command truck with 19 firefighters who were on scene for approximately 2 hours. CCFR was assisted on scene by the Calloway County Sheriff’s Office, Murray-Calloway County EMS & West KY Rural Electric Cooperation. Also thank you to Air Evac for assisting in transporting the patient after getting to the hospital.
