Union City, Tenn.–With its grand finale on the horizon, the Union City High School Marching Band appears primed and ready for a stellar finish to the 2024 competition season.

The Purple People – who’ll participate in the Division 2 State Championships at Stewart’s Creek High School in Smyrna on Saturday – added to their seasonal hardware collection last weekend at the Choctaw Invitational at Dyer County High School.

UC, which had earlier strong showings at South Gibson County and Gibson County, placed 1st in its class in Band, Guard, and Percussion and was 2nd in Drum Major.

Among 23 bands in all, the Marching Tornadoes were fifth.

“I believe we are performing at our highest level of the season, and I look forward to seeing how we match up against the best bands in the state in our classification this weekend,” longtime director Jason Deem said of his group.

“The competition (at DCHS) was a good opportunity to compete close to home for our fans who cannot travel this weekend to middle Tennessee.”

UCHS band supporters got the opportunity to see the Purple People perform their show in person during a free community exhibition on Tuesday night at War Memorial Stadium.

Union City will take the field in the Division 2 state competition at 10:28 Saturday morning in Smyrna.
