Houston Conger age 92 of Springville, TN, died Sunday, October 27, 2024, at his residence.

Houston retired from Emerson Electric after working 30 years as a machine operator. He had previously worked at the Paris Dairy. Houston loved the outdoors and wildlife. He was a gifted painter, writer, and musician. He played the guitar with the gospel group the Heaven Aires and was known locally as the Chet Atkins of Henry County. Houston was a US Army Veteran who served in the Korean War. He was Baptist in faith.

He was first married to Patricia Little Conger in 1952, and she preceded him in death in 1972. Houston then married Janet McGee Conger August 30, 1974, and she survives of Springville, TN.

Born July 19, 1932, in Parsons, TN, he was the son of the late Elzie D. Conger, and the late Orpha Marie Barry Conger.

In addition to his wife of 50 years, he is also survived by three children, Martha Bryant of Paris, TN, Ronnie (Brenda) Conger of Paris, TN, and Randy Conger of Camden, TN; a sister, Helen Sanders of Paris, TN; six grandchildren, Rebecca (Gideon) Gielis, David (Holly) Porter, Christa (Andy) Tyler, Casey Cole, Tricia (Rob) Lipker, and Matt Winters; several great and great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents and first wife, he was also preceded in death by a daughter, Debbie Conger Winters; brothers, Joe Conger, Charles Conger, and Bill Conger; a brother-in-law, Jimmie McGee; nephews, Gary Conger, and David McGee; and a great grandchild, Eli Towater.

Ridgeway Funeral Home 201 Dunlap St./ P.O. Box 788, Paris, TN 38242, will be handling the arrangements. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at 12:00 pm at the VanDyke Grove Cemetery with Andrew Willhite officiating.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Burial will follow in the VanDyke Grove Cemetery.
