Friday was another great day to be a Tornado.

A system-wide pep rally that celebrated the accomplishments of the state-bound Union City volleyball team and also served as encouragement to the Twister football squad was enjoyed by students from all three UC School System campuses.

Enthusiastic purple and gold-clad Union City students also acknowledged the successes of several other fall sports, including cross country, golf, and the undefeated UCMS football team.

The session was emceed by high school principal Jacob Cross. Head coaches Jessica Graham (volleyball) and Nick Markle (football) acknowledged the feats of their respective teams and encouraged continued support from the student body.

Graham’s young son, Hays, then stole the show and brought the house down with his special version of Freddie Mercury’s live performance of “Ay-Oh,” which encouraged participation from everyone present.

The Golden Tornado football team went out later that evening and handed Halls its first loss while taking a giant step toward the program’s first region championship in seven years.

The UC volleyball team will open state tournament play Tuesday at Blackman High School in Murfreesboro with a 2:30 match against South Greene.
