Union City, Tenn.–It’s never too early to look ahead.
Students in Rhonda Clendenin’s 8th grade Career Explorations classes at Union City Middle School recently received tips on next-level educational opportunities with a visit from Dr. Jeffrey Bibbee, Dean of the College of Humanities and Fine Arts at UT Martin.
Dr. Bibbee shared with students the various post-graduate opportunities, college degrees available, and the expense of higher education.
Equally as important, Bibbee spoke extensively about college preparation – including study habits and setting goals – in addition to reducing the cost of college through available scholarships, hard work, and perseverance.
“Right now, a major focus of our classes is organization,” Clendenin said. “We talk extensively about time management and take that a step further by learning how to study and prepare. Dr. Bibbee did a wonderful job of getting our students to recognize how important these skills are.
“All these lessons will hopefully evolve into a lifestyle that helps our students down the road as they tackle the challenges of making good decisions about their futures. The goal is for them to be better students so that they can be successful in school. That, in turn, leads them to be successful in life and give back to our community.”
