Another meet meant more hardware for the Union City Middle School boys’ cross country team.
The Tornado boys added to their plaque collection on Monday, winning the Lexington Invitational.
Madix Turner, Brody Fields, and Cooper Waggoner headlined another stellar UC showing with medal-winning individual efforts.
Turner (11:59) finished fourth, Fields (12:11) was fifth, and Waggoner (13:02) placed 22nd for the Purple and Gold. Jake Lattus (13:26, 26th) and Nash Norsworthy (13:41, 35th) rounded out the Union City showing in a field of 187 runners in the two-mile race.
Camden Watts (14:19) and Will D. McKinnis (14:30) posted a 1-2 finish in the jayvee race. Stephen Herrell (15:07, 13th) also medaled for the UC boys. Walter Harder finished in 26th place.
On the girls’ side, Hadlee Duncan (14:46, 16th) earned a medal in the varsity competition, while Chloe Baumgardner (16:28) was runner-up in the jayvee race.
There were 25 schools in the field.

UC 3, Huntingdon 0
Union City extended its winning streak to six consecutive matches and improved to 12-4 by triumphing on the road at Huntingdon.
After recording victories of 25-16 and 25-22, the Lady Tornadoes recorded a big comeback to close out the match, rallying from an 11-4 deficit for a 25-21 win in Game 3.
Brianna McBride – who drew specific praise from head coach Jessica Graham for her all-around play – finished with 12 saves, 11 digs, and eight kills for UC. Madie Theobald also had a big night with 35 assists and 12 saves while being charged with just one error.
Addison Carr was credited with nine saves, five service aces, and four digs, while Clare Atwill had 13 digs and four saves. Gracelyn Sims pounded down a team-high 14 kills, while Allysia Davis was good for 11. Ca’Lae Ervin finished with a half-dozen digs and five kills, and Cricket Washburn came up with six digs and three aces.
“I was so very proud of the girls for not quitting and fighting back in that third set,” Graham said. “We showed tremendous growth in that comeback from earlier in the year.”
Union City hosts South Fulton tonight for a critical contest that likely will decide the third seed in the upcoming district tournament.

UC’s season ends in regional
The 2024 season came to a close for all Tornado golfers in the Region 7A Tournament at Persimmon Hills in Sharon.
The UC boys finished with a 340 – 31 strokes behind tourney champion McKenzie.
Brody Riley (44-38) shot Union City’s best score with an 82. Gavin McGuire (41-42) was a stroke behind his teammate, while Logan Vincent had a strong back-nine (49-36) to finish with an 85. Copeland Chism (46-44) shot 90, and Finn Frankum came in with a 99.
The UC girls finished with a 239 to trail first-place Scotts Hill (170).
Alli Kate Frilling shot 96 (51-45), Madi Pate 143 (80-63), and Carley Frilling 159 (80-79).
