Body Of Missing Soldier Recovered At Gray’s Landing

Buchanan, Tenn.–The Henry County Sheriff’s Office and Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency have recovered the body of John Michael Jackson from Kentucky Lake.

Jackson was 22 and a soldier at Fort Campbell.

The recovery was made around 6:30 p.m. Friday evening in the Gray’s Landing area on the Stewart County side of the Ned McWherter Bridge at Paris Landing.

On Wednesday, the Henry County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an abandoned vehicle parked on the crest of the Paris Landing bridge. When officers arrived, an investigation was started, due to personal belongings being left in the vehicle.

Officers believed that the driver of the vehicle, Mr. Jackson, had jumped from the bridge.

Search and rescue efforts were conducted during the evening hours Wednesday and the effort continued on Thursday. Due to inclement weather on Friday, the search and recovery efforts were limited.
On Friday at approximately 6:15 PM, the Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency was checking the shoreline at Gray’s Landing and spotted the body of Mr. Jackson and the recovery was made.
Sheriff Josh Frey thanked all the agencies which helped during the search: Calloway Co. Fire & Rescue, TWRA, Tennessee Highway Patrol (including helicopter), Houston Co. Rescue Squad, Paris-Henry County Rescue Squad, U.S. Coast Guard, US Army (aerial support),Paris Landing State Park Rangers, and Cumberland K9 Search and Recovery.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the Jackson family and we hope the recovery provides a sense of closure to the family.
