Buchanan, Tenn.–The water search for a missing Fort Campbell soldier at Paris Landing was suspended last night and may not be resumed until Sunday, due to weather conditions.
Henry County Sheriff Josh Frey said as of dark Thursday night, “We stopped all water searches” for John Michael Jackson, age 23 of Milledgeville, who is stationed at Fort Campbell. Mr. Jackson’s vehicle was found parked on the Ned Ray McWherter Bridge at Paris Landing State Park.
With the weather forecast calling for high winds and rain, Frey said, “We may not be able to resume the search until Sunday morning. We’re supposed to have wind gusts and sustained winds, along with the rain and we just can’t search in that.”
“In the event that we get a break in the weather sooner,  we’ll continue searches at that time. The Henry County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank all the agencies that came out today to help in the search efforts,” Frey said.
In addition to the sheriff’s department, other agencies who have helped with the search include: Calloway Co. Fire & Rescue, TWRA, Tennessee Highway Patrol (including helicopter), Houston Co. Rescue Squad, Paris-Henry County Rescue Squad, U.S. Coast Guard, US Army (aerial support),Paris Landing State Park Rangers, and Cumberland K9 Search and Recovery.
The Henry County Sheriff’s Office is asking for anyone that may have seen John Michael Jackson around the Paris Landing area yesterday please call with that information at 731-642-1672.
