Trenton Middle School Student Arrested For Game Threat

Martin, Tenn.–A Martin Police Department School Resource Officer was notified by a Westview High School student at the Friday night home football game of a possible threat of violence through SnapChat at approximately 8:10pm. Extra officers and investigators were immediately dispatched to the game. Within a few minutes, it was determined that the person who initiated the threat was not physically present at the game and was actually at their residence in Milan, TN.  

 

After the suspect was identified, Martin Police Department Investigators and a Special Agent from TN Homeland Security traveled to the suspect’s residence in Milan. As a result of this investigation, a Trenton Middle School student has been charged with TCA 38-16-517- Making Threats of Violence Against a School. This charge is a Class E felony.

 

The Martin Police Department would like to thank TN Homeland Security, the UTM Dept. of Public Safety and the Weakley County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in this incident, according to Chief Phillip Fuqua.

 

Chief Fuqua said, “Due to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), we cannot comment on any action that was taken or not taken by the Gibson County School System in regard to this incident.”
