Union City, Tenn.–New Union City High School MEP (Mechanical Electrical Plumping) Systems teacher Blake Gregg is making sure his students are aware of the many career opportunities associated with skills learned in his classes.
Gregg, a UCHS alumnus who was recently hired to lead the Mechanical Electrical Plumping curriculum at the school, welcomed Dustin Love from the Masonry Institute of Tennessee this week to explain the many post-graduation options of the craft.
Love has more than 30 years of experience in trade industries and presented a PowerPoint while speaking on various skills needed to take advantage of the many workforce opportunities in the profession. His goal is to introduce students of all ages to “what’s out there,” according to Gregg.
“We were excited for Mr. Love’s visit and for him to explain that there are many paths for them right out of high school,” he continued. “Our students were attentive, and I believe their eyes were opened to more options than they originally thought.”
Love plans on returning to the high school with tools and materials to demonstrate the art of masonry later in the school year.
The Masonry Institute of Tennessee was founded in 1981, and proudly promotes and represents the masonry industry by providing top-notch education, resources, and training to industry professionals and students. According to its website, MIT’s mission is to provide technical data on the economics of masonry, its advantages, and its many uses.
