James Rex Buford

James Rex Buford, 76, of Paris, TN, passed away Sunday, September 1, 2024 at Saint Thomas West Hospital in Nashville, TN

Rex was a Church of Christ Preacher for many years.  He began preaching at Henry Church of Christ and preached the remaining years at Como Church of Christ.  He retired after 30 years with the Henry County Board of Education where he taught at Grove, Henry County High, and Henry Elementary Schools.   He also coached football and baseball at Henry County High school and was football coach at Grove and Henry Elementary Schools.   Rex enjoyed fishing, watching Alabama football, telling jokes and riddles, and reading and studying his Bible.  Most of all, he loved being a Christian, and he dearly loved his family.

Rex was born January 8, 1948 in Huntsville, AL to the late Clarence Earl Buford, Jr. and the late Mabel Ernestine Baites Buford.

He is survived by one daughter, Allyson Elizabeth (Scott) Rogers of Henderson, TN; one son, James Christopher (Emily) Buford of Benton, KY; one brother, Robyn Buford of Hazel Green, AL; five grandchildren, Lauren (Will) Wallis, Conner (Emma) Rogers, Caraline Rogers, Blaire Buford, and Brady Buford; one great grandchild, Collins Elizabeth Wallis; one aunt, Nancy Tipton; several nieces; and a special friend, Barbara Rader of Paris.

Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by two brothers, Bit Buford, and Tommy Buford.

Arrangements are being handled by Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap St, Paris, TN 38242.   Visitation will be Tuesday, September 3, 2024, from 4 – 7 pm  and Wednesday, September 4, 2024, from 10 – 11 am.   The funeral service will be Wednesday at 11:00 am with John Dale, Charlie Cate, and Chris Buford officiating.

Family and Friends will serve as pallbearers and burial will follow in Memorial Cemetery in Paris.
