Paris, Tenn.–The Henry County Courtsquare will have a whole different look in the coming days. Aging trees on the north and west side are being removed and a new walkway will soon be placed on the north side of the square. The trees have graced the courtsquare for decades, but county officials said they are being removed for the safety of citizens. County officials said they regret removing the trees, but it is for public safety. The trees were examined by a tree expert and his opinion is that the trees were unsafe to the public. The expert also said the trees are unhealthy even though they appear healthy from the outside. The walkways on the north side also will be replaced as a safety issue. Several people have fallen on the loose and crooked bricks just in recent weeks. The small gardens at three of the four corners around the courthouse also have been removed in the last couple of weeks. County officials have said that will help visibility of cars and pedestrians around the courtsquare. The work is being performed by H&B Tree Service. Shannon McFarlin photo.
