
Dukedom, Ky.–Firefighters battled total black out conditions, with four fire departments working together, to save the structure of a large chicken barn in the Latham/Dukedom area.
The building itself was saved, although the interior of the barn was a total loss. The barn was empty and no chickens were yet stored there. No people were hurt in the fire.
The Latham/Dukedom Volunteer Fire Deparment was paged out at 8:39 am Friday on a report of a chicken barn on fire on Lee Rd. LDVFD responded with 4 trucks and 11 personnel. With it being a chicken barn mutual aid was requested for Palmersville Volunteer Fire Department for manpower and water.
When 1st due engine arrived on scene there was smoke coming for all corners and roof of the structure. Command immediately requested Dresden Fire Department and City of Martin Fire/EMS for more manpower.
Firefighters was faced with total blackout conditions inside. It took about 1 1/2 hours for the fire to be under control. With the quick response of all departments the building was able to be saved. Unfortunately The inside is a total loss. LDVFD was on scene for approximately 4 hours. We want to say a huge thank you to all the mutual aid depts and their personal that responded.
