Madix Turner claimed first place overall, and Brody Fields was the top seventh-grader in the field as the Union City Middle School cross country team competed in the Dresden Jamboree on Thursday.
Turner posted a time of 5:53 to pace everyone, while Fields was clocked at 6:30 in the one-mile race that was delayed for a period of time due to extreme heat.
Three other UC boys and a pair of Lady Tornado runners also medaled in the final preseason event before the season begins next week.
Jake Lattus (6:41), Nash Norsworthy (6:49), and Cooper Waggoner (6:49) all made the Top 20 cut for the Union City boys. Hadlee Duncan (7:28) and Chloe Baumgardner (8:14) were medalists for the girls.
The Tornadoes will begin their regular season on Monday in Milan.
HIGH SCHOOL GOLF
Both Union City teams placed third, behind McKenzie and Westview, in a three-way match at Persimmon Hills in Sharon Thursday.
The Tornado boys shot 168 as a group to trail McKenzie (157) and host Westview (162).
Brody Riley was third overall, firing a 38 for UC. Gavin McGuire tied for fourth with a 39.
Copeland Chism (45) and Finn Frankum (46) rounded out the Twister team total.
Madi Pate and Carley Frilling each shot 60 for the Union City girls. McKenzie won the competition with an 85, while Westview finished with a 91.
Maddie Gray was the match medalist for Martin after carding a 34.
Union City will play in the Trojan Invitational at The Farms in Dyersburg on Monday.
