Dirt Track Legend Scott Bloomquist Dies In Plane Crash

Hawkins County, Tenn.–Authorities are confirming that race car driver Scott Bloomquist has been killed in a small aircraft crash near his home in in Hawkins County.

Sheriff Ronnie Lawson told The Rogersville Review newspaper that Bloomquist, who owns a small private air strip at his home in Mooresburg, apparently crashed into a barn on his property.

Bloomquist, who is one of the most successful dirt track stock car racers of all time, was the lone occupant of the plane.

The plane crash was reported at 7:50 a.m. Friday.
Bloomquist, who was 60, was flying a small two-seat Piper Cub N21811 aircraft, and was confirmed deceased at the scene.
