Union City, Tenn.–Union City and Covington will again throw a Purple and Gold party prior to beginning the 2024 high school football season.
The Tornadoes and Chargers – who share the same school color scheme on multiple levels – will square off in the third annual Purple and Gold Football Jamboree at Covington’s George Pinner Stadium Friday night.
Admission to the event is $8 if tickets are purchased on the GoFan digital app. Tickets will cost $10 each if bought at the gate. No passes will be accepted.
Both the high school and middle school teams from each school will participate, with time also allotted for a freshman/jayvee scrimmage session.
Action will begin at 6 p.m. when UC Middle School faces Crestview for a 20-minute period.
At 6:30, the high school varsity teams from Union City and Covington will scrimmage for two 20-minute periods. The clock will run continuously until the last two minutes of each quarter, when regular time will be kept. Each team will be awarded two timeouts.
Special teams will not be live, and there will be no kickoff or punt returns.
The jamboree will conclude when a combination of freshman and junior varsity players from UCHS and Covington square off for a final 20-minute segment.
Union City will open its 2024 regular season next week with an Aug. 23 game at Murray.
