The first day of the 2024-25 school year for Union City students was a good one.
Principals on all three UC Schools campuses reported smooth sailing Thursday as roughly 1,700 students returned for classes for the beginning of a new year.
Smiling faces, curious minds, and eager hearts were all part of the landscape at each building. Faculty and school personnel welcomed students at every level, getting them acclimated to new surroundings, pointing them in the right direction, and easing any and all anxieties that regularly come with Day 1 of a new school year.
Director of Schools Wes Kennedy could not have scripted a better beginning.
“What a great day!” Kennedy claimed. “Everywhere I looked, I saw smiling faces. Our teachers and administrators immediately made our students feel at ease and welcomed, and our students showed up with great attitudes and ready to learn.
“I truly believe it’s going to be a fantastic school year.”
UC Middle School Principal Lance Morgan said: “It was really good to see our students again and that helped make it a great day.”
Elementary School Principal Allison Palmer summed up the day by saying: “The first day of school is always special. This year was no different. To see those smiling faces come into the building and see their parents beaming with pride was priceless.
“We are looking forward to a great year!”
Union City Schools students will be in classes until Aug. 30 before observing the Labor Day holiday on Sept. 2.
