Newest Downtown Mural Tells History Of BPU

Paris, Tenn.–A large crowd was on hand for Wednesday’s dedication and ribbon-cutting at for the Paris Board of Public Utilities (BPU) mural in downtown Paris. The triptych depicts several scenes from the BPU’s lengthy history and is the 33rd mural downtown. The mural was created by local artist Dan Knowles and his apprentice, Sarah Candejas, and will serve as a symbol of Paris BPU’s rich culture and history.

At the ceremony, BPU President and CEO Terry Wimberley pointed out several features and people in the mural including Mayor Trevathan and Gov. Browning, who were in office when the BPU began; BPU employees Barry Flood, aka “Elf Barry”, Wimberley, Bethany Edwards, Greg Crouch; Brice and Egan Snow; the RVA and Silicon Ranch; Food Bank with the late Donnie Williams and Alan Harris; Marching Patriots, Paris Danger team.

The mural also features the organizations that are involved with the BPU’s Round-Up program: Carl Perkins Center; Healthcare Foundation; Easton’s Angels; Tomorrow’s Hope, 4-H; Arts Council.

President and CEO Terry Wimberley said, “We are excited to share our story and history through the latest mural additions to the east alley.  Paris BPU is proud to be part of the downtown community and is pleased to add another interesting feature that visitors can enjoy.”
