Union City, Tenn.–Pre-K teachers at Union City Schools have gotten the jump on 2024-25.
With the official beginning of the upcoming school year less than two weeks away, around 120 enrollees of the UC Pre-K department underwent entry-level screening under the watchful eyes of staff Monday at Union City Elementary School.
A steady stream of new Golden Tornadoes made their way through the library, where the process helped identify the development and specific needs of prospective students. The students will be divided into six Pre-K classes for the coming school year.
UC Schools speech pathologists Stacy Hogan and Maddie Britt and UCES nurse Shauna Wisener were also part of the activity as were representatives of several UC Schools community outreach partners – including the local health department, Pathways Behavior Health Services, and the Carl Perkins Center.
Teachers Kim Taylor, Angela Davis, Halle Lively, Kursten Maynard, Melissa Jones, Katie Worrell, and Cindy Thralls directed students and administered the screenings. Pre-K Director Laney Rogers organized the process.
Families received a letter from UCES officials in May regarding their acceptance status after registration and were required to complete the screening.
There remains a waiting list for more possible enrollees.
A mandatory ‘Meet the Teacher’ parent meeting is set for Aug. 1 at 6 p.m. at the UC Civic Auditorium. Students are not required to attend.
