
Cottage Grove, Tenn.–A two-vehicle crash claimed the life of one of the passengers Tuesday on the 218 Bypass near the Henry County Airport in Cottage Grove. The intersection has been the scene of several other serious collisions over recent years.
According to the preliminary report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the collision involved a 2017 Buick Envoy and a 2017 Kenworth T880 truck.
The accident claimed the life of the passenger in the Buick Envoy, Sharon Summers, age 72. Driving the vehicle was Dean Russell, age 72. Neither was wearing a seat belt. The THP report does not include where they are from except to say they are from Tennessee.
Driving the truck was Travis Hoertsch, age 53, who was wearing a seat belt and was not injured. According to the report, Hoertsch also is from Tennessee, but, again, the report does not provide a specific location.
According to the report, Russell was driving east on the 218 bypass and Hoertsch was northbound on Hwy. 69 when the two collided at the intersection. The accident occurred at 12:30 p.m.
The THP investigated the collision.
