The Tennessee Valley Authority expects to have the highest peak power demand of the week this afternoon. Officials said, “We do not expect to reach the record demand we set back in the winter, but it will definitely be hot. TVA is ready to meet the demand and we want you to save money on your energy bill.”
TVA Meteorologist and Load Planner Nick Austin discusses today’s load and how TVA has prepared. In addition, below are tips for our readers on how they can save money on their energy bill.
You can save money and help save energy by following these energy saving tips:
Close your curtains or blinds during the day.
Set your thermostat to 78 degrees. Every degree can save 3% on your energy bill.
Replace your HVAC system air filter every month.
Close your curtains during the day
If you have a grill, consider cooking dinner outdoors to prevent your home from heating up with the stove and oven.
When you are in a room with a ceiling fan, turn it on in the counter-clockwise direction to make you feel cooler. When you leave the room, be sure to turn it off because it of course also burns energy!
Use your clothes dryer during the nighttime hours if possible. Your HVAC unit will have an easier time keeping up if that dryer is getting hot in your home when it’s not quite as hot outside and the sun has gone down.
