Paris Man Taken Into Custody After 6 1/2 Hour Standoff

Paris, Tenn.–A Paris man was taken into custody after a 6 1/2 hour standoff with Henry County Sheriff’s deputies and Paris Police.

Charles Kroner of 400 Clifty Village Lane was charged with reckless endangerment and resisting arrest and was taken to the Henry County Jail. A bond of $10,000 has been set. Other charges are pending in Benton County.

Sheriff Josh Frey said the incident began Friday when the Sheriff’s Office learned of a domestic assault that had happened in Benton County. However, the suspect Charles Kroner had made it back to his home in Paris.

Officers were also told he was making threats to harm himself and others.

Frey said, “Once officers arrived at the Clifty Village Lane address Mr. Kroner was observed sitting on the front porch and he retreated into the home. Mr. Kroner then began to threaten officers if they approached, he would shoot. At that time a parameter was set up and communications were started with Mr. Kroner by officers and family members.”

For 6 ½ hours negations continued and Kroner came outside several times armed with a handgun. At 6:05 am Mr. Kroner came outside unarmed and was taken into custody. He was transported to the Henry County Jail and booked on reckless endangerment and resisting arrest with a bond of 10,000.  

The Clifty Village area was shut down for several hours while the negotiations were ongoing.

Also assisting on the scene were Paris Police Department, Tennessee Highway Patrol, Henry County EMS and dispatchers from both departments.
