Updated: 18-Wheeler Accident Claims Life In Obion County

UPDATE From Troy Fire Chief Brandon Baldwin. More details have been released on today’s fatal semi accident on Hwy. 51 near Troy. According to Baldwin, the semi veered off the highway and crashed and caught fire on the embankment on Davidson’s Creek.

There was a solo occupant of the 18-wheeler and the name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Witnesses said the semi ran off the road and made no attempt to correct their path of travel.

Union City Fire Department, Obion Fire Department were also on scene to help with the fire and haz-mat cleanup.

The THP is leading the investigation into the accident.

Troy, Tenn.– Emergency personnel are still at the scene of a fatal crash on Hwy. 51 near Troy and the northbound lane of the highway is still shut down.

The one-vehicle wreck happened at 3 a.m. today at the Davidson Creek Bridge in Troy.

Troy Fire Department personnel told WENK at mid-morning that the northbound is still shut down but one southbound lane is now open.

The wreckage of the 18-wheeler is at the bridge and in the process of being cleared, with the TDOT bridge inspector on the way.

In addition to the Troy Fire Department, Obion County Sheriff’s Office, the Obion County Rescue Squad, Troy Police, Highway Patrol and numerous other first responders are at the scene and motorists are cautioned to slow down and be careful when traveling around the scene.
