Mrs. Moretta Herndon Oliver, age 94, of Paris, Tennessee, passed away on Sunday, July 7, 2024 at Eiffel Gardens of Paris. Her graveside celebration of life will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Buchanan with Randy Stephens and Tom Sisco to officiate. Named as pallbearers are Donnie Oliver, Carter Oliver, Jack Oliver, Robert Dale Bell, Adam Blake Bell, Lawrence Jackson and Jeff Thorn. Burial will follow the service.
Visitation for Mrs. Oliver is scheduled at McEvoy Funeral Home on Tuesday, after 11:00 A.M. until time to leave for the graveside service.
Moretta Herndon Oliver was born October 13, 1929 in the Old 23rd District of Benton County, Tennessee to the late Charlie Herndon and the late Allie Blount Herndon. She married Carter Hays Oliver on December 16, 1949 and he preceded her in death on April 27, 2015. She is survived by her nieces, Robin Herndon, Connie Bell, and Debbie Elkins; nephews, Donnie Oliver and Lawrence Jackson; sister-in-law, Betty Oliver of Paris; also by great nieces and nephews, along with great-great nieces and nephews, other family members and friends.
Besides her parents and husband, Moretta is also preceded in death by her niece, Anita Michael and nephew, William Earl Jackson.
Mrs. Oliver was a longtime member and Sunday School Teacher at Mt. Zion Church of Christ. She enjoyed quilting and quilted with the ladies at Bethlehem Church of Christ, making numerous walker bags, teddy bears and quilts. She was in charge of collecting for the March of Dimes for the Nelson Community which later became Henry County Helping Hands. She loved working in her garden and always had plenty to share with her family and community.
The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the staff at Eiffel Gardens and to caregivers, Marie Trent and Annetta Brewer for the care and kindness they’ve shown to Moretta.
