Fulton County, Ky.– The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet announced that the Fulton County Fiscal Court will receive $200,000 in County Road Aid emergency funds for the repair of landslides along Beech Grove Road (CR 1216).
“The Transportation Cabinet is pleased to approve this request for funds to assist Fulton County with this repair to help maintain safe roadway connections,” said Transportation Secretary Jim Gray.
Beech Grove Road runs between KY 925 and KY 2139 southwest of the Brownsville community in southwest Fulton County. The roadway has been closed due to landslides and erosion at four locations.
With engineering assistance from KYTC District 1, the county plans to place sheet piling along areas where roadway embankments have been damaged by landslides and eroded up to the edge of the pavement. Once repairs are completed, guardrail will then be added to the reinforced areas.
Beech Grove Road is a school bus route. Fulton County Judge-Executive Jim Martin says the repair work is expected to be put out for bid on July 12 with the goal of completing slide repairs and reopening the roadway before school begins.
Fulton County will receive 50 percent of the funding to cover up-front expenses, with the remainder provided when the work is completed. The county is responsible for 20 percent of the total cost.
The KYTC Department of Rural and Municipal Aid maintains a special fund to assist county and city governments with emergency roadway repairs.
The Fulton County Fiscal Court is responsible for administering the work.
