The Union City School System is again going the extra mile for its elementary and middle school students.
Director of Schools Wes Kennedy has announced that the school system will once more provide school supplies for every student in Pre-K through the 8th grade for the 2024-25 school year.
It marks the third consecutive year for the gesture, with Kennedy saying he hoped it would again ease some of the stress many families encounter when preparing for the beginning of a new school year.
“With inflation and the cost of living continuing to rise, I’m hopeful this will help a little with the expense that comes with starting school,” the top UC Schools administrator said. “Especially for our families with multiple children, we know how things can add up quickly.
“We’re happy to do this for them during these challenging times.”
It has also been determined that the system’s traditional dress code will be reinstated for Union City Middle School for the 2024-25 school year.
Solid color polo shirts must be worn and tucked in at all times except on Fridays or other designated days when school spirit wear may be worn. Belts are mandatory.
A detailed list of ‘dos’ and ‘don’ts’ regarding dress code requirements is listed on tornadotouch.net under the student handbook section or can be found here .
The traditional dress code will remain in place at UC High School, while Union City Elementary School (PreK – 4thgrade) will continue to allow the wearing of spirit wear on a daily basis.
UCMS Principal Lance Morgan is also reminding students and parents that incoming seventh graders are required under Tennessee Law for Immunization to have a booster dose of the Tdap vaccine as they begin the 2024-25 school year.
Registration for students in the Union City School System is set for Aug. 6, with the first day of classes for the 2024-25 school year on Aug. 8.
