Hazel, Ky.–At 5:30am Calloway County 911 Communications Center dispatched Calloway County Fire & Rescue to the intersection of Hwy 641 South and EW Miller Street in the Hazel community for a vehicle accident with injuries.
Dispatch also advised that the vehicle was rolled over with entrapment. Upon arrival of CCFR fire personnel, the vehicle was found lying on its side with one person still inside unable to get out. CCFR personnel worked to stabilize the vehicle so firefighters could safely work on extrication of the driver without the risk of the vehicle moving. With the roof of the car being damaged and caved in, CCFR had to use hydraulic rescue tools, also known as the jaws of life, to remove a portion of the roof to allow medical personnel to access and treat the driver before removing them from the vehicle. The driver was then taken to Murray-Calloway Co. Hospital where they were flown out to another medical facility for treatment of their injuries.
CCFR would like to thank the sheriff’s deputy and EMS personnel for assisting with the extrication, without the additional assistance it would have made the situation more difficult. As always, it takes a team and Calloway County has some great people serving our county. CCFR was assisted on scene by Calloway County Sheriff’s Office, Murray-Calloway County EMS and Paul’s Towing.
