Former Henry County Executive, Judge, Principal Bob Swayne Passes Away

Former Henry County Executive, General Sessions Judge and Principal of Henry School Robert “Bob” Swayne passed away Saturday.

Mr. Robert “Bob” Swayne, age 96 of Paris, passed away Saturday, June 22, 2024 at his residence. His visitation is scheduled at McEvoy Funeral home after 10:00 AM until time for funeral service, starting at 2:00 P.M. Friday, June 28, 2024. Glenn Jobe will conduct the service with burial to follow at Sulphur Well Church of Christ Cemetery. His family and friends will serve as pallbearers. 

He served in the U.S. Navy until he was discharged due to an injury. While he was in the U.S. Navy, he met Eleanor “Nell” Castleberry. They married on January 31, 1950  which led to 62 years of marriage. Eleanor preceded him on July 5, 2012.

He attended Bethel College. He also was a principal & teacher at Cottage Grove School as well as a teacher at Henry School. He served as the General Sessions Judge in Henry County in the early 60’s while attending night classes at Nashville Law School. After graduation, he practiced law until his retirement. He served as Henry County Attorney & Henry County Executive. He was involved in many civic organizations and was very active in the Paris-Henry County Chamber of Commerce. “Bob” Swayne loved serving his community.

Bob was born on March 7, 1928 in Elkhorn, Henry County, Tennessee to the late Homer Thomas Swayne and Winnie Kendall Swayne. 

Mr. Swayne is survived by a multitude of family members including his daughter: Jennifer Swayne, Paris, Tennessee; son: Bobby (Amanda) Swayne of Paris, Tennessee; daughter-in-law: Jackie Swayne; grandchildren: Michelle Swayne, Paris, Dustin (Trishia) Swayne, Nashville, Daniel Swayne, Lake Worth, FL, Aaron (Jenny) Hutson, Tuscaloosa, AL, Rick (Cherisa) Hutson, Clarksville, TN, Ben (Miranda) Hutson, Ft. Greg Adams, VA, Magen (Tommy) Jones, Jackson, TN, Abby Swayne, Fargo, ND, Alex (Reece) Hassell, Ava & Rob Swayne all of Paris; and many great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his sons: Rick Swayne & Gary Swayne; sister: Rosemary Neese, and Peggy Tucker and brother: Homer Thomas “H.T.” Swayne, Jr.

“Bob” was a loving husband, Dad, Grandy, Grandy Bob & great-Grandy. He was was special to many nieces and nephews. He was a member of East Wood Church of Christ & dedicated his life to serving others though his role as an elder & various missions through the church, Freed-Hardeman & Memphis School of Preaching.
