Paris, Tenn.–Strings are coming to the Henry County Schools elementary programs!
The Henry County Board of Education voted to add elementary strings as a feeder program for the high school strings program. Elementary strings will begin in the 3rd and 4th grades at Henry, Harrelson and Lakewood Schools.
The board honored the Henry County High School Softball team on its great season as District Champs, Region Champs, Sectional Champs and Top 6 in the State. TSSAA recognized the HCHS student athletes with an overall GPA of 3.87.
The Board Scholarship recipient this year is Taylor Petty, future elementary school teacher and the board voted to pursue the Clean School Bus Rebate program for $2M.
Aspiring Administrators were recognized at the meeting: Justin McElroy, Jessica Borens, Chris Coleman, Sandy Lambert, and Holley Mason, Lindsay Craig could not be at the meeting.
High School course selections were expanded: College and career ready time will be expanded in academic and CTE courses; ACT prep will be expanded; and basic life skills will be taught. Every student will participate in this instead of homeroom and will receive a credit. Honors reading at Grove and Mathematical reasoning for decision making are new courses as well as Textile Arts for a fine arts credit and a new computer science course. Drivers education will be available at Grove and HCHS. Government will be a one credit course instead of .5. Personal finance will be a .5 credit course paired with .5 credit Economics for the senior year.
Dyersburg State will have their instructors on campus for dual enrollment courses.
All Students will be taught basic life skills such as changing a tire, etc. There will be a rotating cycle of basic life skills, college and career readiness, and ACT prep.
