Confederate Veteran To Be Honored With Ceremony

dd-brisendine

Cottage Grove, Tenn.–The Isham G. Harris Camp of Paris, Tennessee will host a ceremony honoring David Dickenson Brisendine at the Walker Cemetery in Cottage Grove at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 2.

David Dickenson Brisendine (aka D.D.) was born in Henry County in 1836 to early settlers William David and Julia Dickenson Brisendine.  In April of 1861, DD joined and was mustered into the 154th Tennessee Volunteer Regiment as a Corporal.  He would go on to serve valiantly for four years, distinguishing himself in many battles, and rising in rank to Captain before his surrender in Paducah, KY in May 1865.  Years later he would be awarded the “Southern Cross of Honor” for his service in the Confederate States Army.
After the War, DD Brisendine settled in the HICO Community near Martin Mill, married Isadora “Dora” Wade and raised a family.  He died, in 1914, at age 77 and is buried at Walker Cemetery next to his wife.
Taking part in this ceremony will be members of the Fort Heiman Camp 1834 of Murray, KY, the Isham G. Harris Camp 109 of Paris, Tenn and the Paris Chapter #2521 of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.  The event will feature a Confederate bugler and color guard, and speeches by Commanders Tom Hiter of Benton, Ky. and Commander Rick Revel of Camp 109.
Descendants of DD Brisendine will be present for the ceremony.
