McKenzie, TN – Rush Cox of Puryear was presented a Ray Aviation Scholarship by Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 734. Rush will be a senior at Henry County High School this fall and is 17. He plays football and is among the top ten academically. With this scholarship he will also be a private pilot by the end of his senior year.
Rush is the son of Chad and Maria Cox.
Rush is a member of EAA Chapter 734. He has taken several Young Eagle flights with Chapter 734 and recently helped other kids experience flight for the first time at Young Eagles events at the Paris-Henry County Airport and Carroll County Airport. Chapter 734 has flown over 2,000 Young Eagles and has awarded over $60,000 in flight scholarships. Many of the scholarships came with partial funding from the Ray Foundation.
The Ray Aviation Scholarship is one of the legacies from James Ray, an EAA life member who believed that life skills, discipline, character, and confidence taught through flight training makes a positive impact on youth. James wanted kids to work for their goals. This played a big part in Chapter 734 choosing Rush for this grant to learn to fly. He works on the family farm and still manages school and football. He also studied hard for his FAA Written Test that he passed before receiving this scholarship. Rush’s journey to flight will be on Chapter 734’s website at www.734.eaachapter.org.
