Paris, Tenn.–Love a good yard sale? Point your car toward the Historic Atkins-Porter Neighborhood this Saturday, May 11.  The free, annual event is sponsored by the Historic Atkins-Porter Neighborhood Association and features sales at homes throughout the neighborhood.

Traditionally held on the Saturday of Mother’s Day Weekend, sales will begin at 7 am and some will run until at least noon or  1 pm, according to Rachel Terrell, president of the association. The historic neighborhood lies within the boundaries of Dunlap, Veterans Drive, Tyson Avenue and East Wood Street.

To help shoppers find the sales, a map highlighting participants’ addresses will be available at 501 Dunlap Street, corner of Jackson and Dunlap. Proceeds from this sale benefit the Association and will be matched by a generous donor.

“The map also can be found at the other neighborhood yard sales and on the Association’s Facebook page. There will be plenty of signage,” Terrell said, who described the annual yard sale as “a fun, annual project that encourages people to come enjoy our shady streets, our ‘old-home vibe’ and our friendly neighbors. There’s plenty of parking on the street, and at the Atkins-Porter Rec Center parking lot.”

Shoppers are invited to drop by the Neighborhood Botanical Garden at 311 Jackson St., sit down amongst the flowers and enjoy a little break. The garden is not only a lovely spot to read or picnic, but serves as home of the W.G. Library’s summer reading program, as well as several Tennessee National Wildlife Refuge summer children’s programs. During special holidays, the garden’s decorations and lights provide great photo opportunities.

“There’s always something wonderful going on in the neighborhood, and anyone can join in. So keep your eye on our Facebook page for more information on these events,” Terrell said.
