UC Senior Night Perfect For Softball Trio

Union City, Tenn.–Senior Night couldn’t have gone much better for a trio of Union City softball players.

Emmaline Qualls, Marlee Theobald, and Caty Jo Hoffman combined to go 7-for-9 with four runs scored and four RBIs in the Lady Tornadoes’ 10-0 whitewashing of Gleason Friday at Hawks-Eddlemon Field.

UC pounded out six extra-base hits and blew the contest open with a seven-run second inning to improve to 7-11 overall and 5-1 in District 14A play.

Qualls had two doubles, a single, and drove in a pair of runs while also scoring twice to lead the Lady Twister attack. Hoffman went 3-for-3, and Kennedi Robinson doubled twice and was good for a pair of ribbies.

Maddie Smith also had a two-base hit, and Clare Atwill scored twice.

Theobald, Smith, and Addison Carr combined on a two-hit shutout in the pitching circle.

Union City will host Greenfield for a doubleheader on Tuesday.

HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL

Lexington 4, UC 2

The Tornadoes are now 13-8 heading into their final full week of regular season play after falling to Lexington.

Union City held a 2-1 lead before the Tigers scored three times in the bottom of the fourth.

Copeland Chism had two of the Twisters’ three hits and scored a run. Troy Joslin also tallied, with Will Ragsdale and Kyler Southerland accounting for UC’s RBIs.

Logan Dawkins (2-3) was tagged with the loss after pitching deep into the fourth frame. Southerland tossed 2 1/3 innings of shutout relief.

Union City hosts Bradford on Tuesday.

HIGH SCHOOL SOCCER

Union City 9, Fayette Ware 0

Cohen Robinson had a hat trick, and Marcos Landeros and Silverio Acevedo scored two times apiece to help the Tornadoes rout FW Saturday afternoon.

Union City (5-2-2) peppered the Wildcats with 23 shots on goal and scored six times in the first half.

Landeros also had four assists, while Joseph Lattus and Gavin Morgan found the net for the Purple and Gold.

Ka’Jaylon Bell (4) and Jayce Rogers (1) combined for five saves in the shutout.

UC plays at South Fulton on Tuesday.
