Union City High School HOSA students recently made their mark at the state leadership conference in Chattanooga.

Kinsley Campbell and Danyelle Huffman won first place in the First Aid/CPR competition to highlight the accomplishments of the UCHS contingent.

Maya Runions placed fourth in the clinical nursing category, while Adeline Rice was fifth in dental science.

Campbell and Huffman qualified to attend the International Leadership Conference in Houston this summer with their accomplishment.

In all, 10 Union City students advanced to the state competition after success at the regional level. The top five finishers at the regional moved on to compete at state against other students from across Tennessee.

Others from UCHS who qualified for the state level included Katana Bonds, Jasmine Potts, Claire Frilling, Jaime Becton, Lilly Courtright, and Angel Bell.

“I am so proud of this group of girls and their success in their respective HOSA competitions,” UCHS nursing education teacher Jessica Tuck said. “Their dedication, passion, and tireless efforts paid off, and I couldn’t be prouder of their achievements.”

There were two rounds of state competition – the first consisted of testing related to specific subjects and categories. Those who advanced past the initial round were involved in a skills portion where they demonstrated one or more skills chosen from a random list.
