The Stewart County Sheriff’s Office has become a much younger agency in the past 12 months.

With the leaving of several senior and veteran deputies to other agencies.

Higher pay, sign on bonuses and other benefits is making it hard to attract and keep trained deputies.

Many trained deputies have left the Sheriff’s Office for jobs with THP, the State and other agencies. Jonathan Law, Ryan Griffin, Grayden Grise and Dalton Houston all of which have been hired within the last 12 months have an average age of 24 years and 6 months road experience, 3 of the 4 graduated from Stewart County High School and all live in Stewart County.

All but one has graduated from Tennessee Law Enforcement Academy (TLETA) with the 4th one scheduled to attend in July.

According to Sheriff Gray what these new deputies lack in experience they make up with their ambition, dedication and professionalism.

They all are being well trained and have been given the best equipment possible to do their job.

The Sheriff’s Office is extremely proud of all its employees and we are extremely proud that these young men have chosen to serve the people of this county.

We ask that our citizens pray for all our members and especially these new young deputies.
